La Botana Burritos

Oh what fun we had today feeding the homeless.  :)  We had three little Munchkins with us, who are the children of Melissa & Brian, our newest helpers.  :)  Brian, age 5, was with us last weekend too & today lil' Jillian, age 6, & her lil' bitty sister Allison, age 3, came along & helped hand out all sorts of things we had to give out today.  More about that later.

A great big shout-out goes to La Botana Mexican Grill for donating 75 of their most yummy burritos for the homeless today !!  :)   Arnold, you are an Angel & I pray that all of your generosity will come back to you many, many fold !!   :)  I know I can always count on you when I need help with feeding the people in the City parks !!  You have been there for me now for 2 years already.  We fed 59 people today & the ones in the second park got two burritos until we ran out.  :)  They just always love your food, Arnold, & they let us know that.  :)

Everyone, please support La Botana & Arnold by eating at his restaurant, which is on the corner of First Avenue & Fort Lowell in the Food City shopping center.  His food is upscale & just really great !!  :)  It is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Tucson & I am very loyal to it.  :)  His Shrimp Especial is out of this world good & my favorite there !!  :)

This was a bonus meal for the homeless, since this month has five Saturdays.  Thank you J.J. for coming to the parks to serve & for always being my support, even on extra days !!  :)  And for always trying to come up with some way to make things better for everyone !!   :)

Melissa & Brian thank you for donating all that water, for buying new socks for the homeless & for donating the cookies to go with the burritos !!   :)  It is great to have you on board & your kind support means a lot to the homeless & to me too.  :)  It touched me deeply that you gave up eating out so you could spend that money on the water, socks & cookies, & had PB&J sandwiches instead for dinner.  That is just so very, very dear of you !!   :)  It was also very special to have your three lil' Munchkins with us today, they added so much joy to the whole event.  :)  Joy for the homeless & joy for J.J. & I to watch.  Lucas (5) kept telling each homeless person "God bless you".  J.J. & I kept looking at each other with the biggest & proudest grins on our faces.  :)   Lil' Jillian (6) wanted to come back tomorrow to feed some more & lil' Allison (3) thanked me for letting her help.  Aaaaaaawwww !!  :)   I almost cried when she said that.  :)

Please see all the pictures I posted about today's meal, especially of the three Munchkins.  :)  Brian, thank you, you did a fantastic job with the camera.  Those pictures turned out wonderful & I posted them all.  :)

It is awesome to watch you, Melissa & Brian, how you teach your children compassion, empathy & to give !!  And not just once, it is an on-going lesson you are giving them each time you bring them along.  :)   It was so joyful to see each one hand out the water, the shoes, the oatmeal & the granola bars, along with the bars of soap.  They each took their job very seriously & they gave so lovingly & wholeheartedly, it was ever so precious !!  :)   You are great parents & your children reflect that back to you & everyone around them !!  :)   Now I'm sitting here crying.  :)

Dave, thank you for loading up the car for me once more !!  You are always there for me too, when I need help with lifting, etc.!!  I am so happy about your good news today about becoming a Grandpa once more !!  :)   You so deserve it !!  :)

Good night everyone & sleep with the Angels !!   :)

Cold Pasta with Ham, Bacon, Asparagus, Carrots in Ranch Dressing

Where do I start with sharing today's feeding with you ??  It all was so very eventful, incredible & fun.   :)

First of all, my "Cooking Angel" Faith came over & we whipped up a big meal, which included the above pasta & a great big tossed salad too.   :)   The pasta was an experiment, as we used Hidden Valley Ranch for the dressing to go over the pasta & ham, etc., & it turned out really good.  I feel that Ranch dressing is way underused when it comes to dressings other than just for salads.  :)  The Ranch & bacon combination just on its own was great.  So learned something new today.   :)  The tossed salad had a Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing this time.  Thank you Faith for being such a great co-pilot.  :)

Later in the afternoon Melissa & Lucas (age 5) came over to help, but we were done by then.  They both came to the parks with us.  Melissa had collected shoes for the homeless & socks, as those, especially the socks, are always needed.  I had a bunch of oatmeal packets to hand out too & some health bars that were donated.  Melissa also baked a lot of brownies, which were so welcome by the homeless.  :)  We all know how big their sweet tooth is.  :)   And I took a bunch of magazines too.

We fed 45 people today, but I expected more to show up, since it is towards the end of the month when there are always more mouths to feed than in the beginning.  Most of the food is gone though, many of the homeless got second plates.   :)

My faithful serving helpers Marilyn & J.J. came to the parks again & I thank you both lots once more !!  :)   Marilyn deserves a great big star today !!  :)   She had blisters on the bottom of her feet & she still showed up.  She then was going to leave early since I had enough helpers, but she couldn't stay away & showed up at the second park too to feed the puppies there.  Then she was going to go home, but also showed up at my house to help me clean up the dishes & the pans.  I am so blessed by her friendship & her dedication to feeding the homeless !!  :)   Marilyn also took the pictures & the video of today's feedings.  :)

I have been feeding the homeless for almost three years now & among the people often is a woman who never has talked to any of us in all this time.  She just always came, got her food & walked off.  Well, today she made my day.  She came up to the table, called me by my name, which I didn't think she even knew, and started telling me about how her knee hurt.  Needless to say I was really excited to have a conversation with her !!  :)   Three years later !!   :)

Dave & Linda, thank you once more for your food donations & as always I am ever so grateful to you both !!  :)   :)    I also wanted say another thank you for the electric knife you donated some time ago.  :)  I have been putting it to good use, especially with those big hams.   :)

Stefanie, David & Roy thank you for helping with the dishing out of the food & water today in both parks & for bringing a lot of extra water for the guys there !!   :)  It is nice to get to know you & I hope that you all will come back soon to help out.  :)   Your help made everything a bunch easier for all of us & your kind smiles were well received by everyone !!  :)   I still can't believe that you, Stefanie & David, are grandparents !!  :)   It's amazing !!  :)   Roy, one of these days I will figure out where I have met you before.  :)

So now to our lil' Munchkin Lucas, who is 5 years old & ever so amazing !!  :)   Lucas was in charge of handing out the socks & shoes to the homeless.  I saw him a few times running after someone trying to give them a pair of shoes or offering socks.  :)  This little man is so loving & compassionate already that it touches ones heart deeply.  His mom Melissa told me that he wrote a song about the homeless people earlier this week & he sang it along his own guitar playing.  I can't wait to hear it myself, hopefully soon.  Melissa also said that she had to keep telling Lucas he couldn't walk off with the homeless, he wanted to go off looking for people who wanted another brownie.  :)  Afterwards Lucas said that "his favorite part was handing out the socks & packets of oatmeal because it made his heart explode with happiness".  Aaaawwwwwww & now I'm crying as I type this.  What a big little man at such a young age !!  :)

Please enjoy Marilyn's pictures & many Blessings to each & everyone of you !!  :)  Please always pray for the Homeless & for their safety !!  :)   Thanks !!   :)

Pasta with Ham, Broccoli, Sundried Tomatoes, Multi-Colored Peppers & Parmesan Cheese, again :)

What a colorful dinner we served today.  :)  It looked like Christmas with some fall colors mixed in, red & green & orange & yellow.  And then there was the tossed salad also full of colors.  We all eat with our eyes too & today the eyes had some feasts along with all the bellies.   :)

We had ham again since Albertson's had a great deal on them a little while ago & I stocked up a lot.  It will be ham for a little while longer, there are three more frozen.  I asked the Homeless if they are tired of ham & they said no, not at all.  Chicken is another story though.  :)   Apparently they get chicken fed quite often.

We fed 45 people today altogether & were able to hand out a few granola bars, etc.  I don't take them very often, as there isn't always room in my SUV for more to carry along.  I wish my car was bigger sometimes, so I could take more things to the parks, but it is all good !!  :)

Thank you Faith & Ted for all your loving cooking help & it was really awesome to meet you today, Ted !!  :)   I loved how you kept looking for ways to help & to just be there for Faith & I with whatever needed to be done !!   :)   You fit right in !!    Please come back soon !!   :)

Heily dear, thank you for baking all those yummy brownies for the homeless (and for us too   ;) !!  Ted can have some next time & so can you !!  We deserve treats too, since we work hard to get the meals cooked.  :)  Those brownies were just too good for words !!  :)   Please make more soon.  :)

Dave & Linda here is another shout-out of Gratitude for your continued & ever so loving help !!  :)
You are the best neighbors one could have & I so appreciate you both !!  :)

J.J. & Marilyn thank you for being there for me by helping serve & to crack jokes at times.  :)   I appreciate both of your help always, even though sometimes I forget to tell you so.

Marilyn my thankfulness to you for cleaning up all the salad & pasta bins tonight & for letting me sit down for a little bit to rest my feet.  I am going to be 70 at the end of next month & sometimes I feel it, although I try to not give it too much power.  :)

I am very, very tired tonight, it was quite hot out there at the parks.  So I will keep this short & say good night to everyone now.  Sleep with the Angels & please pray for all the Homeless out there in this heat & humidity right now.
